"Every time there's a journalist doing a broadcast, the Hong Kong protestors would stand at the back and desperately raise their pickets with English writings for other countries (to understand). I got reminded of 1980, when the people of Gwangju saw foreign press as the ray of hope, it's too sad."
"Honestly, even when I was serving as a war correspondant during the Vietnam War, I've never seen such a painful sight."

This was only 40 years ago...
This was what our country looked like in Gwangju in 1980 ㅜㅜ

[theqoo] HONG KONG'S ACTOR CHOW YUN FAT "CRITICIZES CHINA'S EXCESSIVE PRESSURE"
"In 2014, China set out a blacklist of celebrities who helped democratize Hong Kong.
On the 31st (of October) they blacklisted 47 celebrities who sympathized with the Hong Kong democratization protests.
Actor Chow Yun Fat commented on the protest saying "I think that the students who participated in the demonstration are rational and courageous." He added "the protest will be over when the government proposes a way for the citizens to be satisified."
He also criticized the excessive supression of the HK police who used tear gas to fire back at the protesters.
Chinese government's blacklisted celebrities include Chow Yun Fat, popular actor Liu De Hua (Andy Lau), Tony Leung Chiu-wai, etc. Award-winning film director Ang Lee is also included in the list."
He's a ray of light
T/N: we did a bit more research for fun and here's some more interesting things CYF said regarding his career in China:
Cr: NY Times
When asked recently what he would do if China banned his films, Mr. Chow replied: “Then I’ll just make less!” the magazine reported on Sunday.
