[instiz] GANGNAM POLICE YEOKSAM DIVISION INVESTIGATION, QUESTIONABLE DEATH AMIDST OF INVESTIGATING THE NIGHLIFE

It's been around 8 years from today
On July 29th 2010,
In the reservoir of Chungbuk, Youngdong
Mr. Min found something strange when fishing
He saw something that looked like hair and upon confirmation, he discovered a dead body.
Red arrow: where they found the detective's body
- it was barely 2~3 meters from the shore
- the water arrived at the height of an adult's waist
- there are no strong currents

Mr. Min found a police ID in the pocket and proceeded with confirming the identity
it was revealed to be Lee Yongjun, a detective working for the Gangnam police station

This is a picture of detective Lee Yongjun taken upon the completion of his investigation degree

The police have just started their investigative assignment and detective Lee Yongjun (LYJ) was reported missing on the 27th, 2 days before the incident.
LYJ was at that time in the position of being appointed to be part of the criminal investigation division since he has completed his investigation training.
Before that, he used to be part of another division, where for 3 years consecutive, LYJ had been awarded as the exemplary cop.

The police first announced to the bereaved family claiming:
"Detective LYJ had experienced relationship issues throughout his life, which did not fall short of what seemed like depression. The public can become easily agitated if news about a young homicide detective's death came out, so first of all, let's settle with him committing suicide over relationships and investigate the case in the time being"

The bereaved family, who considered other cops colleagues as their own sons, decided to agree with the proposition made without thinking much of it.
However, within only 1 month after detective LYJ's death, they have concluded the investigation with a final verdict that it was, after all, suicide.

The bereaved family opposed to this verdict.

I looked through the leading events, the day of the incident, and its aftermath.

On July 26th (3 days before the body was found dead), LYJ worked overtime taking the late night shift.
He was revealed to have gone to a nearby police substation, which was not the Gangnam police station, to photocopy "material about a certain incident".
He then met up with a hyung Mr. Seo he knew to drink some liquor until very late, chatted, and ended up sleeping at Mr. Seo's house.

The next day, on the morning of the 27th, LYJ received a call to which he replied "Got it chief! I apologize for being late" and rushed out.

But what was odd is that he didn't directly leave for the police station,
Instead he went to briefly take a look at the scene of the thief case he was appointed to.
Yet, once he finished the check up, he still didn't head to the police station.
Looking at his GPS, he was confirmed to have been heading to a car repair shop situated in Busan.
When en-route to his destination and passing by Youngdong (t/n: AKA where the reservoir was), he got into a car accident.

The accident was revealed to have happened in a quite peculiar way
He first bumped once on the 4 cars lane's guard rail, crossed over to the single car lane and collided again.

What is especially peculiar is the fact that he first received a collision on the 4 cars lane and bounced off from it all the way to the single car lane and received another hit.
Fortunately, no cars were passing by at that time and another relief was that LYJ's head only received a minor injury because the skin was slightly ripped in the front of his head.

After the accident happened, he called a tow truck and they took him to the hospital nearby, at Youngdong Hospital.
In the middle of being treated for his wounds, he suddenly told them that he had to go to the washrooms. He/someone took off all the Ringer solution in the washrooms and disappeared. This was the last time LYJ was seen.

This is the last CCTV footage of LYJ taken from the hospital

The police claims that it was suicide
Yet the bereaved family claims that it was murder
This incident has yet to be solved even to this day

Here are the questions raised from this incident:

1. The depth of the water at the time they found LYJ's body was 1m50. He was over 1m75 and he would've been drowned dead at his chest level, which is very strange. Unless someone forcefully shoved his head down into the water, it was physically impossible for him to drown alone. Another probable reasoning would be that he drowned somewhere deep and because of the currents, his body was transported there. However, no dams were found in this reservoir, so it was also ruled out.

2. The last witness account we had of him was on the 27th, when he went to drink liquor with his hyung late at night, and it was revealed that he only drank one bottle. He took a blood test at the hospital after his car crash and his alcohol concentration was barely 0.01%, which subsequently rules out the possibility he drowned while being drunk.

3. The autopsy picture shows those marks around his neck

When the police claimed that he committed suicide in the reservoir, they also claimed that he was swayed by the strong currents because of the water plants nearby so his neck got wounded.
They also claimed that it could've also been the result of his car accident, that his seat belt rubbed against his skin and cut it. However, upon confirming with Youngdong hospital, there were no such neck marks at the time he visited.
The police then changed their explanation another time claiming that someone killed him by strangulating him, however to die from choking, you need to break the Adam's apple bone. His Adam's apple bone wasn't broken so it was impossible that he could've died from strangulation. So in the end, they said that he probably hit himself against something nearby and pushed the narrative that it was suicide.

4. The autopsy blood test results later showed that a medicine against cold, diphenhydramine, was present in his blood. This is an effective sleep inducing drug, so it is prohibited to take such medication before driving. After investigating into the medical papers of LYJ some days prior to the incident, there was no prescription about taking any medicine against cold. (because this drug is a prescribed drug, you need a doctor's note to be able to get it). One might wonder if the drug was prescribed after the accident. No such prescription was made after he visited the hospital.

5. The autopsy also revealed that the forehead's bone as well as the crown bone were fractured. The police insisted that this was due to his head receiving hits during the car accident. However they never precised how his crown bone was wounded as well.
Considering the distance between the steering wheel and his head, or the windshield and his head, it could've been possible that he fractured his crown during the accident, if the car was crushed. With the normal distance, it's also probably that he hit his forehead due to the accident. But let's suppose he hit his head on the window next to him (because the driver seats on the left) he would've then hurt his head on the left temporal region, however, there was nothing found.

6. After examination, the hyung he knew, Mr. Seo is no normal person.
It's a secret agent that LYJ got to know while taking his training on criminal investigations.
Mr. Seo knew another secret agent in Busan running a car repair shop in Busan and that he wanted to introduce him. The GPS did reveal that LYJ was heading to Busan.

7. Plankton was also found in LYJ's lungs.
However, the police went "Look at this! If it really wasn't drowning and that someone killed him at another location, we wouldn't have found plankton in his lungs!" And continued to claim suicide and drowning over it. The odd part is that the plankton type found in LYJ's lungs were 'diethyl idinium' species, which is a plankton that can live only in seawater. The police later went as far to claim that the national forensic researches made a mistake.

8. Listening to the statement made by Mr. Seo, the one who drank liquor with him until late at night, I found him very odd and bizarre and tried to research on him.
He claimed that people have different level of speed to dissolve alcohol and that it's hard to have the alcohol from one bottle of liquor completely dissolve the next morning.

Here are the talks going under the table around this story (the statements below have never been stated along with the official case)

1. LYJ never had relationship issues to start with.
It was revealed that the police told the bereaved family that he suffered from depression due to relationship issues so to just go with the suicide excuse.
I went to confirm it and there was never any relationship issues

2. His "Yes chief!" also made no sense if you understand police structures. Usually, police units are divided in pairs, it's almost impossible for a chief policemen to call you directly. They would always make calls when both people are there.

3. Mr. Min who found the body said that he found it in the fishing area, however, according to another statement, it was revealed that he found a black car a little further, but this is unrelated to the case, so I'm not going to explore this.

4. It's very uncommon for a policeman to be photocopying an incident's material at someone else's house, let alone even another policemen colleague, and sleep there. Because there's still a risk of being exposed no matter how close you are with a person.

5. Why would he photocopy his investigation information at another place nearby and not at the police station itself? Usually policemen would just print their stuff at the police station.

6. According to the people frequenting that fishing reservoir,
It's a place that is hardly known by any outsiders. Besides, the Youngdong hospital isn't even close to that place.
If LYJ really committed suicide, then how did he learn about this place? There was absolutely no connection between LYJ's death and this particular reservoir. Usually, when people commit suicide, they would do it at a memorable place or a place they hated. This is rather an average common place

7. At first, the police induced the family to refuse to perform autopsy on him, pushing them to believe that it was suicide and that performing an autopsy would be like killing him twice.

8. The police have yet to disclose their conversation with the bereaved family. They are investigating the LYJ affair in their police station, but strangely, the phone conversations were never released of the day of the incident, nor the day prior to.

9. After the incident, information about digital cameras and the patrol division were found in LYJ's car.

So what was detective LYJ investigating this whole time?

"Gangnam's adult entertainment business confirmed to have a chat with 63 policemen"
"Gangnam prostitution and adult entertainment - Investigation on their alliance"
"Police - Adult entertainment, connections revealed"
""Police's alliance suspicions" Gangnam's adult entertainment industry evaded 4.2 billion taxes"

"Why did Gangnam's room salon investigation ended in such an anti-climatic manner?"
"Unable to reveal the police connections? Only able to decipher tax evasion claims"
"Messy ending" Police connections eradication"
"Gangnam's adult entertainment - Police connections suspicions, investigation "Incomplete"
"300 billion adult entertainment market... Connections "Who knows""

Gangnam adult entertainment head: Of course we have connections with the police. Including our plumber jobs. Of course. It's in the news anyways

So what's a plumber job you may ask?

It's regulations information that you get from the police by giving them money.
They want to prevent any litigation that has to do with their prostitution and adult entertainment business

Can't you see that there's no way this never happened?
If it didn't they wouldn't be able to run their business

The check that LYJ funerals received from the police (t/n: it's around $880 USD)

Attempting to contact the police who issued the check

"I tried calling them to get information on where they issued the check"

We tried to reopen investigation on LYJ's case
But what do you think the biggest obstacle was?

Pyo Changwon, member of the national assembly: It's because of the culture of wanting to protect the police organization

First of all, the ability to open re-investigation, as well as the power to do it
And the resources and information needed to conduct it, all of these are in the possession of the police.
The police is not willing to re-open investigation.
