[theqoo] SNOWDROP REACTIONS DUMP

t/n: there are a lot of posts trending on Theqoo. We will only pick a few of them

[theqoo] INTERNATIONAL FANS' REACTION TO SNOWDROP

t/n: some parts are kinda hard to understand because of slangs/comments are Google translated
"I'm curious about Knets' ratings and comments. When they started their petition, it was revealed that this drama was already just a fiction. And there are no distortion of history wkwkwk"

"OMG, I really hope Snowdrop hits daebak. The synopsis didn't distort history. What a weird controversy"

"The only way to shut up haters is to air the drama. They already confirmed that the drama doesn't distort history. This means that once the drama starts, we can start promoting it"

"Snowdrop PD said he got inspired by North Korean defectors, and guaranteed there's no distortion of history"

This is Korean history for them. Are they real or are they joking?
"Snowdrop top mds(?):
- The high tension scenes were well executed
- Young-ro's character is perfect and has 0 defect
- The secondary characters are all charming
- The story is charming
- I was curious about South Korean history and this gives the historical background."

"Damn.
1. You're a fan of Marvel
2. The only thing you know how to do is play video games
3. Snowdrop is inspired by a true story from 1987, and the atmosphere is in the middle of an election
3. It is obvious that if you do not know the context of Korean history, you will not understand"

They claim that it shares the same motive as Youth of May regarding 5.18 democratic movement, while Youth of May was well-received

"It was indeed fun, but the vibe were kinda similar. I'm worried it will have the same ending as  Youth of May :("

International fans were reacting on Twitter regarding other rational tweets claiming that there was distortion of Korean history. Their arguments boiled down to:
1. But you're not even Korean, so why should you fuss over Korean history^^?
2. You guys are all antis anyways^^
3. Actual Koreans enjoyed the acting of the actors and the drama^^
4. The portion of Koreans who are criticizing this should criticize all historical works ^^
"Let the antis talk, in the end, Jisoo stood out and everyone loved her acting. The other fandom and antis can die in envy. she was incredible and got recognized for her talent"

"Koreans loved Jisoo's acting, for once they do something right"

.....There are f*cking lots of people who have no idea why this is controversial..ㅎㅎ
And these comments are becoming the mainstream

Nowadays, broadcast channels have gotten rid of the dislike bar, so everyone thinks that this is fine

(only showing 9K likes)

original post: here

1. It's amazing that such a pathetic country is putting fangirling above everything

2. Those f*ckers are fangirling so crazily that their head was emptied from everything elseㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Just imagining that these kinds of humans are living in my country makes me nauseousㅋㅋㅋㅋ Take your celebrity that you love so much by their hands and screw off from our countryㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

3. Are they really proud of having an empty head and not knowing history?

4. This is getting serious. How can they leave comments as they want like that? Who do they think this is benefiting...?

5. Those fans are sharing her links between each other to swamp all comments sections with these kinds of commentsㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ  Do they really believe that Jisoo's acting was good?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

6. I'm truly curious, are these people kids? Or are they adults? Are they even people....

7. This is severe

8. I bet even the company's part timers can write comments like that...Just to make the topic go viral... Of course there may be some people who truly don't know what's happening

9. This is seriously an issue, I just saw a comment saying "Can't we just enjoy a drama as a drama?"ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Wow... I don't even have words

10. But even her acting was bad?

[theqoo] SNOWDROP REALLY BEAUTIFYING NSA

"Seems like the viewers of 'Snowdrop' might've already forgotten about it, but the media has become accustomed to deal with this kind of situation, having dealt with Joseon Exorcist. All they need is to block all channels of communication, shut their eyes and ears and let this pass. But next week, the chaos of chaos will ensue"
"PS. Peak comedy. The director (house mother) of the women's university dormitory blocks the NSA agent from catching a spy. I didn't know that the women's university dormitory rules were so strong that they can block a notorious NSA agent?"

He went to catch the spy, but he director told him he didn't have a warrant.
What a golden rule.

T/n: the NSA is the new name for KCIA, which raided the student protest of May 17th  (under martial law). NSA is also an entity that is able to intervene in the country's politics. So the tweet calls it comedy that a women university is able to surpass NSA. The beautification refers to the drama painting NSA in a good light because they're downplaying their brutality with them listening to the dorms director's rules.

original post: here

1. F*ckㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

2. You really think that we can stop NSA from entering a female university? Pfff

3. This is straight up beautification of NSA, I'm seriously dumbfounded

4. Where did the history that I know go? A warrant? This is too much

5. Beautification of NSA ^^

6. So you're telling me, all this time NSA was an organization that cannot operate without giving a warrant + operate under equalitarian principles? Who could've known

7. If this was a real NSA agent, he would've grabbed you by your hair, dragged you out and beaten you up with a bat... This is just facts

8. F*ck

9. If this was real life, the school director would've been the first one killed

10. If this was realistic, the director would've been gone the next day

[theqoo] SNOWDROP'S WOMEN UNIVERSITY DORMS IN THE 80S

original post: here

1. This is not the movie Handmaiden?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

2. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓

3. F*ck it looks like Harry Potter

4. Do they think this is Hogwarts? F*ck

5. Burst out laughing at people calling it Xaviers' Schoolㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

6. People call it X-menㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

7. Hogwarts?

8. Who is the one who came up with Xavier's School? You're freaking funny

9. Looks like the writer was walking around in Ehwa university with a flower crown on her head while the students were getting killed outside. I bet she's the type who didn't care about anything that was happening around her as long as she was enjoying herself. Is she not embarrassed of this script?

10. What a real dorm in the 80s looked like

[theqoo] [SNOWDROP] THE NSA WHO GIVES NO INTEREST TOWARDS ACTIVISTS🤮🤮🤮 + PETITION TO STOP BROADCAST

(briefly translated)
Soo-ho (Jung Hae In): Professor. Are you going home?
Professor: Ah! You're still there?
Soo-ho: *examines car* Aigo. This looks like a tough situation
*Professor takes Soo-ho's car and thanks him for giving a ride*
*NSA female agent with other NSA agents follows Soo-ho*
*Soo-ho's car gets into a collision, Geum-cheol (Driver) becomes unconscious*
*professor dies from the collision*
*Soo-ho realizes he's being followed by the NSA, tells his other comrade to hurry up and escape*
*NSA leader, Kang-moo, recognizes Soo-ho, points gun at him, doesn't shoot, pursuit ensues*
BGM "Dear Pine, Dear Pine (t/n: literally translated as Pine Pine Green Pine)" plays in the background as the pursuit ensues (t/n: will be discussed later)
Kang-moo: Soo-ho you f*cker!
*Soo-ho runs through protesters, NSA agents continue to run after him*
*Kang-moo shoots but doesn't hit him*

*scene transitions to the activists throwing bottles and police throwing tear gas bomb*
*Back to the dorm*
Seol-hee (Young-ro's friend): They're shooting a lot of tear bombs today
Young-ro: (talks about Aemin Party's elections campaign happening at a place called Songchon Rotary)
*chatting about Jeong-min unnie coming back safely*
*back to outside with the protest*
*NSA agents still tracking Soo-ho, find blood on a fence and see the women university*
*Soo-ho climbs inside the dorms*
*NSA agents break into the dorm*

Here you can see that during the spy chase scene, they played an activist/protest song in the background. And you can see how they're trying to beautify the NSA here.

The NSA pursuers are only preoccupied with chasing after the 'real' spy when you can hear the song playing so loudly. They also don't have any intention to pursue the students

They're simply borrowing the same logic the NSA used when justifying torturing students by using the pretext of catching spies

+The NSA's goal from its inception, to its rebranding, to its disappearance, has never been about catching spies. It was the dog of a dictatorship created to maintain dictatorship. And their one and only obsession has always been the students activists.

Yet their goal here is solely to catch a spy? This was only their excuse.
Moreover, an NSA agent who is ready to risk his life to catch a spy? This is pure beautification.
Do people know that the whole spy catching thing was just a myth?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

++
Look at how hard they're running around catching that spy.
And they're giving no interest towards the students activists.
They even obeyed the law and listened to that warrant ruleㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
What country is this? And which NSA generation is that?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

t/n: Context: during the 1980s students protests, NSA agents were capturing student activists and tortured (sometimes killed) them under the excuse that the students were communist spies (often calling them German spies/North Korean spies). The problem from Knets perspective is that the drama is validating and rationalizing the abuse and legitimizing the excuse NSA gave by introducing a real spy, hence implying that they had the right to torture people.

original post: here

1. I never thought I'd live the day to see NSA viewed positivelyㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

2. This makes me tear up with rage. Is this how those crazy f*ckers are using the freedom they gained from the people who fought for us? This makes me wonder if we really need to respect freedom of expression

3. This is seriously disgusting

4. This is more of a fantasy than Harry Potter

5. I'm disgusted thinking that this was intentionally done

6. This sure isn't the NSA I knewㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

7. I couldn't bring myself to watch everything. I might dieㅋㅋㅋ

8. This is everyone's kind neighbor, the NSA🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

9. I signed the petition. They're crazy

10. 🤮🤮🤮🤮

[theqoo] 'SNOWDROP', WHAT'S SO UNFAIR ABOUT IT? [PILOT EPISODE]

The phrase “judge after you watch it” was put to shame. Contrary to JTBC's exhaustive explanation, many people showed concerns for the broadcasted 'Snowdrop' and the controversial synopsis remained the same.

Before talking about the controversial distortion of history, the level of completion of the drama should first lead to a lot of discussion. The story is divided into three main parts: the daily life of Eun Young-ro and Hosoo Women's University dormitory, the political story of Eun Chang-soo (Heo Jun-ho) and Nam Tae-il (Park Sung-woong), and the background story of the NSA led by Lee Kang-moo and Jang Han-na. Each scene has a different tone and manner, giving the impression of patching different works together. In addition, during the long running time of 90 minutes, the introduction of multiple characters and the flat development of the story felt rushed, reducing the interest and immersion of the viewers.

BLACKPINK's Jisoo's first acting challenge, which aroused curiosity, was disappointing. Her acting of her daily life shown in the dormitory was stable, but as soon as her romantic acting started after her first encounter with Im Soo-ho, she showed similar expressions of surprise in every scene. In particular, in the scene where she screamed at Im Soo-ho to avoid the police, her husky voice interrupted the delivery of lines. Even in the scene where Im Soo-ho was found collapsed in the dormitory, the consistently awkward expression in her acting broke the viewers' immersion.

The disappointing level of completion of the work was an issue itself, but the controversy over the distortion of history has been rekindled. In the pre-production stage of 'Snowdrop', many characters were introduced such as the protagonist Im Soo-ho, who was introduced as an athletic student and a spy sent to South Korea, the straight forward NSA team leader, the passionate NSA agent, etc. Once revealed to the public, these characters received massive criticism. In response, JTBC explained that many parts were speculation and misunderstanding, and asked the audience to "please refrain from misleading the public opinion with false information about the unreleased drama as if they were facts set in stone".

At the end of the drama, behind Im Soo-ho, who was running away from the NSA, was a background scene where you could see students fighting against the police while protesting in a democratic movement. In fact, "Dear Pine, Dear Pine (T/N: see post below)," a protest song representing the democratic uprising in 1987, was played in conjunction with the scene of Im Soo-ho running. Given this situation, the intention of the production team is questionable. The male protagonist, who was introduced as 'the spy sent to the South' on his introduction page, is hiding among the protesting students while the NSA is chasing after him. Hence, the production crew's claim that "the drama is based on a fictional background except for the setting of the military regime in 1987" became a lie.

In addition, fears about the beautification of the NSA have become a reality. When Lee Kang-moo, the team leader of the NSA, was chasing Im Soo-ho, he went to investigate the Hosoo Women's University dormitory and confronted the housemother of the dormitory Pi Seung-hee (Yoon Se-ah), which made viewers burst into laughter. Viewers have pointed out that the scene where the notorious head of the NSA got pushed out by the dormitory housemother because "there was no warrant" and that it was an "women-only area," was a distortion of history. Where in the world could the production team feel unfairly accused amid controversies that arose over past few months? After watching the first broadcast, my question grew even bigger.

original post: here

1. Well said

2. For real, they need to get this knocked in their heads even more

3. Well said. Why are they feeling so unfairly treated that they are babbling like that? They are getting hate and this is just as expected. Traitors

4. They didn't change anything and just cosplayed as the victims

5. They said to watch first before judging. I watched it and seriously felt betrayed

6. Please write more articles ㅠㅠ They are the devils among devils

7. Just what is unfair about this?ㅋㅋㅋ The writer, director and actors have no shame

8. What in the world about this is "unfair" and what was "misleading"?

9. Well said. They had so many opportunities to cancel this but instead, decided to broadcast it

10. I'm f*cking shocked at the fact that people are shielding this ㅋㅋ

[theqoo] THE SONG THAT PLAYED IN THE BACKGROUND WHEN THEY WERE CATCHING THE SPY IN SNOWDROP

"Yah f*ck, they are catching the North Korean spy and are playing "Dear Pine, Dear Pine"??? Yah, what the f*ck?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ have they lost their minds?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ"
"The handsome NSA agent is running after the handsome North Korean spy to catch him, f*ck, and they are playing "Dear Pine, Dear Pine"?

Is this a joke????

They are using a song like the poster song for the June Struggle protests in this manner?????????"

"I still can't believe that they used "Dear Pine, Dear Pine" as the background music for the chase after the North Korean spy.
The theme song of the student protest was played while showing a story justifying the torture and assault that the students went through when participating in the movement."

(T/N: talking about how the song sings about the suffering and ultimate victory of those who carry out the democratization movement in the 1980's. Song for reference below.)

Lyrics translation creds @gatamchun
