[theqoo] *TW RACISM* ADELE INSTAGRAM POST CRITICIZED BY INETS FOR "LOOKING DOWN ON BLACK PEOPLE"

White pop star Adele is in the heat for posting a picture that is receiving divided opinions on whether it's looking down on black people VS it's uncomfortable.
She has been caught in a 'cultural appropriation' controversy
Cultural appropriation refers to the use of elements of a particular culture or identity by members of other cultures.

It can be a problem when members of the dominant culture are discriminating against others, or when the culture that is relatively weak is distorted without a proper understanding.
For example, a typical case is that white people imitating black hairstyles.

It's becoming quite controversial on IG and Twitter

1. No but it just seems like she found other cultures' clothes to be cute.. What is it an issue??;;

2. It's so tiring, how can they live like this?

3. They're being way too sensitive

4. Then they should stop doing straight or wavy hair..

5. To live in a world where racism still hasn't disappeared, I can understand why black people would find it upsetting to see white people saying how pretty it looks. But even Jamaican people are fine with this so I can't help but think that they're being too harsh here, on the other hand, I can understand that they have a deep history of racism against black people, so they're sharing their point of view

6. There are so many people in the comments explaining for everyone so why am I still seeing comments here telling black people to stop doing straight hair, etc... Do you think that black people do that hair because they want to? Even when Obama was in power, it's the same country who said that she doesn't have good hair and they wanted her to do it for "black people to look better" that's plain racism because they're coerced to do hair like this, so why are you guys bashing black people here?

7. When foreigners come to our country to try out hanboks and dye their hair darker color, we just think that they're trying to experience our culture, so why do they hate it so much? Because they're white?

8. It's a different case for black people trying to have straight hair... Black people have no choice but to braid their hair due to the nature of their hair, African Americans who are above middle class spend a lot of time and money trying to maintain their straight hair or they would use wigs (wigs are also f*cking expensive). That's their so-called "good-hair", but lately, they've been trying to remove this stigma and let their natural hair out, but whenever they do it, it's often viewed as inappropriate. That's something that was forced on the black community by white people to confirm to their standards.

9. But she's not doing this to belittle them, and it's not even black people's culture, she's just doing this because she found the culture pretty so is it still considered discrimination? Though I would understand them being pissed if people misunderstand this being white culture instead of black culture

10. The only answer is to not touch anything that's from black people and not get associated with them
