A man in his 40s, who drilled a hole in the body of an intellectually handicapped girlfriend whose intellectual ability is under 10 y'o and padlocked her, was sentenced to imprisonment.
Incheon District Court (Judge Song Jae-yoon) announced on the 25th that he sentenced A (44), who was charged with violating the Welfare Act for persons with disabilities, to one year in prison.
A punched a hole in [his girlfriend's] body part with a lethal weapon at the residence of B, 31, at Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, around 5 a.m. on November 4, 2019, and then padlocked her.
A was suspecting B for cheating on him with a man who was her former lover. And in the mist of the accusations, he committed the crime in order to prevent her from having intercourse with other men.
The two were confirmed to have been in a romantic relationship from 2012 to November 2019. B was found to be suffering from an intellectual disability. Her intelligence index (IQ) is 64, which places her intellectual ability to less than 10 years old.
The judge explained, "According to the opinion of a psychiatrist, a professional psychologist, the victim has the level of self-determination of elementary school students, so it seems that the development of gender identity and sexual self-determination at the time of the incident was also underdeveloped."
Moreover he added "The accused feels heavily guilty in regards to the means and methods of the crime he committed" "Comprehensive consideration was given to the fact that the accused admits and reflects on the crime, and that the victim does not want the accused to be punished."
